Nova vs Cuse or Knicks vs Grizzlies
Tonight I ate at St. Vincents (little fast food place on campus). It was a perfect situation, watching syracuse playing Villanova while enjoying some great tasting chicken fingers. Out of nowhere some goofy looking guy in a st. John's hoodie goes up and changes the game to the Knicks-Grizzlies game. I was in awe basically. My jaw hit the floor. Somehow the intense #4 vs #8 college game got changed to a regular season NBA game that meant absolutely nothing. The little things that can ruin a meal run.

It was the same old same old for St. John's basketball. A combination of bad defense and poor shot selection landed the Red Storm at 15-12, in a loss to Pitt 71-64, which fell significantly short of their preseason hopes. You can find the Pitt pregame interview with St. John's head coach Norm Roberts at http://www.redstormsports.com/sports/m-baskbl/stjo-m-baskbl-body.html
On a different note, the atmosphere at MSG was good as it always is, win or lose. During the singing of the National Anthem a heavy girl in the pep band obnoxiously sneezed, and imediately turned red with embarrassment as everyone turned to look at her.
One thing that I can't seem to figure out is why the guy sitting in front of me kept standing up during the game when he was in the front row. Thats something I'll have to continue pondering because I have never really been a spectator because I played sports in high school rather than watching them. Now I have to wonder if standing ovations are everyone standing because they want to or because one person in the front stood up so everyone followed just so they could see.
I can tell that I still remain a country boy even after living in the NYC for a few weeks now. The subway ride back to Queens was a little shaky. I haven't rode on the subway that many times so when the train starts to shake, I think of what happens in the movies where the car derails and flips or whatever. So the train starts to shake, I shoot panicy glances at the others riding in the car,but I notice that most of them are asleep. Maybe a little bit of an overreaction but I'm learning.
